You can quit looking for the perfect TV...

I have no idea how many online & print reviews we read or how many Plasma & LCD TV's my wife & I looked at but I know we shopped off & on for almost a year before finally deciding on the Sony 52XBR4. Now that we've had it for almost a month, I can say it has met or exceeded all of our expectations.
Our Family room is 16' by 24' but the TV had to be set up on one of the long walls directly opposite a wall of windows. Because of the fireplace & the way the room is laid out, the furthest we sit away from the screen is about 14' and we were unsure whether to get the 46" or the 52". Didn't want to get that 'front row at the Movie Theater' thing going and it looked huge when the delivery guys unpacked it. However, it's perfect even when viewed from as close as 6-8' away & I'm really glad we went with the 52".
The unit itself is fantastic and with HD input, the picture is so clear it's like looking through a spotless window. Even watching non-HD DVD's is absolutely amazing because of the sharpness of the picture. The kid's games all function flawlessly and are likewise incredibly detailed. The non-glare screen is a big plus in our window filled family room. We replaced a 10 year old 37" Sony Trinitron flatscreen that was very bothersome to watch during the day because of the reflections.
I shopped price pretty hard to and yes, you can buy it cheaper from some camera store in NYC than Amazon BUT, be sure to read up on those unbelievably cheap online sites. They make up for the low price by 'selling' you parts (like the stand) that they swipe out of the box. Or you get a TV that was supposed to go overseas. Our Amazon experience was great. We had a delivery date a day after we ordered the TV and the freight company actually delivered several days earlier than promised. They brought it in, uncrated it, set it in place and hooked it up.
Overall, a great transaction and a wonderful state of the art Television. Couldn't be happier.
