♥♥♥♥♥ Adios HD-DVD, hello Blu-Ray
I was one of the unfortunate ones who bought into Toshiba's HD-DVD technology and got stuck with a player that no more media will be made for. Anyways I sold all my HD-DVD movies and took the player to Goodwill to be recycled. Adios HD-DVD, hello Blu-Ray. After careful research I narrowed my choice of players to this one and the one put out by Panisonic. I went to a local store and talked to an employee about the differences and the only difference that influenced my decision making is that the Panasonic has an ethernet port for downloading stuff to the machine from the internet which makes it cost about $100 dollars more than this Sony. I of course will never use that feature so I went with the Sony. I got this machine home hooked it up and played a Blu-Ray Disc and was amazed at how much better the picture was than that of my Toshiba HD-DVD player. Even though my HDTV only goes up to 1080i I still get an awesome, detailed HD picture. In the future I hope to be able to buy a HDTV with full 1080p resolution so I can get the most out of this player. For those of you that think this player is slow to load, I say get over it. Not everything good in life is fast. It is a little slow but not worth passing over just because of that. Standard DVDs play great also. The player does a great job in upconverting them. In a way I am glad HD-DVD is dead. It just doesn't compare to Blu-Ray technology. The only reason I bought into it was the price and knowing that one of them would bite the dust. I didn't want to possibly get stuck with a $1000 Blu-Ray machine, which is what they were going for when I bought my $300 HD-DVD player. Anyways the war is over and now we can move on. If you are looking for an excellent Blu-Ray player for a great price this is the one. It is worth every penny.
