| I bought this DVD player because it comes with the HDMI to DVI cable. I already have a 65 inch HD ready Samsung tv with a DVI input on the back. I thought for $150 this would be a nice improvement over my 6 year old non-progressive scan player. At first I could not get the DVI to work no matter what I did!! How frustrating! With component cables it worked fine but with DVI cable... nothing. I called the customer service # at Samsung. The first two people I talked to couldn't help me. The third person I talked to gave me a firmware code to type into the remote of the dvd and like magic, it worked perfectly. It turns out I needed to turn off the HDCP (High Def Copyright Protection). My tv does not support HDCP and therefore wouldn't play without this feature being turned off. I wish they would print this in the instruction manual. Once that was resolved, it works great. Picture is great. Big improvement going from 420i to 720p or 1080i (I just can't figure out which I like better!) The customer service agent said they have gotten a lot of people returning the player because they can't figure out how to turn off HDCP. It's too bad that they make it so difficult to turn it off. |
