♥♥♥♥ Great Quality, A Couple Of Annoying Quirks
We have owned the DRMV99B for about 6 weeks now. We replaced a "Magnavox" DVR/VCR unit from Wal-Mart that was a piece of junk. I give high marks to the quality of the unit, and the quality of the recordings. We find the unit easy to use and we've had no trouble with VHS or DVD's so far. My wife still prefers the simplicity of VHS so she is happy too. We have Comcast cable and the unit's tuner is able to pick up all of the analog, digital, and HD channels that aren't scrambled so we can use it without the cable box. This allows us to record several shows on different channels without having to change the cable box channel at certain times. We don't have an HD TV yet, but the picture quality on the HD channels is definitely better with my current set. The numbering of the channels is confusing because the analog channels are 2-0, 3-0, etc., the digitals are 2-1,3-1,etc., and the HD's are 3-2,3-3,etc. This obviously doesn't match the channels listed in the cable guide, but I don't know what they could do about that. We record almost everything we watch so that we can watch our shows when we want to, and skip the commercials. This brings me to the 2 negatives that we've seen so far. The worst one is that we can't watch a tape while recording on DVD. I think JVC could have thought that one out a little better. We can, however, record on tape while watching a DVD. The other negative is that when we watch a tape and fast forward through a commercial and then hit play there is about a 2 second delay. This causes a bit of aggravation going back and forth to catch the beginning of the show. These are the reasons why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
