♥♥♥♥♥ Simply the best!
A person can do all the research in the world on comparing different products that are on the market. In the long run, you don't really know what to expect until the item you poured a lot of time into researching finally arrives and you get to see it in your hands.

First off, the size was perfect.
The 1st reason I went with the 605 and not the 705 was for portability reasons. I needed something that could easily fit in my pocket. I'm sure the picture quality would have been fantastic on the 705 but it seemed a bit big for my purposes. The 2nd reason I went with the 605 over the 705 was do to the fact that I really like the convenience of having the buttons on the side. The touch screen is of course fantastic and smooth but I probably would not have purchased this if it didn't have the buttons on the side. I find myself using both the touch screen and the buttons equally. I found it very easy to get around either way.

Second, I really like the feel of the Archos 605 device over let's say... the iPod.
It feels pretty sturdy and the screen is recessed (I find this to be a big plus); not like a cheap piece of plastic like the iPod. The iPod's surface and casing are a terrible design. The screen on the iPod is not recessed and the case is super glossy which makes for a "pretty" look but not very practical for everyday use; meaning it's extremely easy to scratch; I've seen people place the iPod on a table and see visible marks afterwards. If you doubt it, look at a display model.

Third, the picture and sound quality is amazing.
Whether you're watching movies or just browsing through pictures, the screen resolution and clarity cannot be beat. I mentioned the sound as well mainly because it comes with a built in speaker. The iPod does not have a built in speaker. It's a small one but the sound is not too bad; it even has equalizer adjustments. I'm not one for wearing headphones all the time so this is a very convenient feature for me. I have tried a pair of noise canceling headphones and the sound was fantastic.

Fourth, the WiFi feature.
I can surf the web with pretty much all the features of a regular browser. Most of the time, I just use it to check my email, look at the news and maybe check out the movie listings.

Fifth, the DVR feature.
Even though I haven't purchased the DVR Station yet but do plan on doing so very soon.

The only things I find that need to be fixed would be the WiFi Connection issue and the Main Screen Icons (and believe me these are only minor problems).
The WiFi doesn't seem to keep your settings. After talking to tech support, they said to check the router and set it up for Channel 11 instead of Channel 6. I have a Linksys router and it seems to work fine now. I assume the router channel problem could be taken care of with the next Firmware Update.

As far as the main screen icons,
You have the capability of having your own wallpaper which is a great feature. However you can't see it too well because the icons on the main screen are solid. If there was a slider bar in the settings to make the icons on the main screen a little transparent, it would make your personal wallpaper much easier to view. I have spoken with tech support regarding this as well so I'm sure this may be something that can be added with a Firmware Update.

I am using what is currently the latest firmware version 1.8.05.

All in all this is a great buy with fantastic quality. I found it on Amazon for around $360.00. There are plenty of accessories to purchase. It may seem like they nickel & dime you for accessories and plug-ins but it does help keep the cost of the main unit down. Compare this to an iPod with a 160 GB hard drive and you'll clearly see this is a better bargain.
