| If the answer is yes, than this video is for you. However, if you are just a recreational skier looking to learn how to ski the bumps more effectively, this is not the video for you. I would strongly recommend watching Lito Tejada-Flores' Breakthrough on Skies: Bumps&Powder. Because John Smart jumps straight into bump skiing techniques. No basics of the short-swing turns will be taught at all. In fact, even basic bump techniques are not taught here. Only the competitive style of bump skiing (straight down the fall line) is covered here. With that aside, John Smart does a pretty thorough breakdown of Mogul Techniques; Turns, Absorption/Extension, Body Position, Vision etc. The explanations on each of the areas is insightful and it gave me a much better understanding on how its done. However, it would be even better if John Smart would provide drills or exercises for the techniques he had explained, which are sometimes difficult to apply with just an analysis. Since there are not that many other videos on Competitve mogul skiing, its difficult to benchmark the overall quality of this video. But I do suspect that as competitive mogul skiing becomes more popular (thanks to guys like Jonny Moseley), I expect to see an even better video. Once again this is NOT a BEGINNER video, you will need to have at least have a very good handle on short turns before you can even start to understand any of the tecniques taught in this video. |
