♥♥♥♥♥ Call A Spade A Spade.
I've never known if our Amazon ratings are supposed to be based on how well we like something or how good we think its quality is. I ask this because...

It's easy to realize that you can still like something even as you recognize its badness. Memories of Murder is one of those instances. The movie is not very good. But it's interesting. I bought the tape for one reason: it was an obscure film starring Vanity. (I mean, I even own Action Jackson. How many can say that?) Made in 1990 when Vanity was 30 or so, she plays the villain, Carmen, who is after a woman named Jennifer aka Cory who has recently lost her memory after seeing Carmen in a restaurant.

Carmen (Vanity) takes on different chameleon-like identities as she stalks Jennifer (Nancy Allen) for something Jennifer can't remember. But Carmen doesn't kill Jennifer when given the opportunity. No, she wants to scare her and make her the "mouse" in this "cat and mouse" game. She wants to rob her of her sanity and her family before doing the final deed.

You will be shocked how much Vanity looks and acts like Prince in the film. I always thought Vanity looked like Prince with a wig anyway, which is probably the reason he named her Vanity (he saw himself in her.) But there are some scenes where she has a close haircut, and REALLY looks like him.

You can tell it's low budget. Bad music, and an even worse script.

Bottom Line: It's a bad movie with subpar acting from the hero, but it can hold your interest for 90 minutes; plus, it has Vanity, which is why I give it maybe one more star than it deserves.
