Maytime (1937) Customer Reviews   1     2     3   ♥♥♥♥♥ Classic Romantic Musical It's been a while since I last saw this movie. Yes, I watch it every time it comes on TV and cry buckets at the end. Certainly one of the best, if not the best, of the classic romantic musicals of the 1930s. Of course, the movie uses/adapts some of the score from the operetta of the same name, so let us not forget to thank Sigmund Romberg for the enchantingly beautiful music. Better singers (and better actors) than Jeannette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy there certainly are (MacDonald thought of herself as a singing actress, while Eddy thought of himself as an acting singer.)
