| 2/23/03 The 4 tape edition of "Les Miserables"(French Adaptation,dubbed in English,210 minutes,distributed by Front row Entertainments Inc. (P.O. Box 5891,Edison,New Jersey,USA 08818-6891) reads more like a post World War I film in its "noire' type settings(it is not surprizing that it was done that way since actor Jean Gabin(in role of Jean Valjean) was born in 1904(and was in his prime between World War I & World War II) and possibly would have wanted as much authencity as possible in "Les Miserables"'s theme re 'haves,have-nots and the role of "Women,Wine,Song", "Universities","Judicial","Legislative" and "attempted coupe(s)" in 'Societial Evolutions'....it varies much from the other versions(Movies & plays) of "Les Miserables" but is truer to(translation by Norman Denny) Penguins's book of "Les Miserables(ISBN 0140444300)" a translation of 1252 pages(incl of Appendix A(Pg 1202,Appendix B (Pg 1214) etc..The Appendix(s) help even better to have the reader(s) of the book as well as viewer(s) of the play(s) and movie(s) to see "Les Miserables" as more than a sentimental story. |
