Somewhat Accurate Film
|
This film really tries to portray Ben Hogan as a man who longed for the public adulation, like a Phil Mickelson of today. From everthing which I have read, this is not true of the man.
One scene shows him admiring the winner of the last tournmanent who is entertaining others at the bar. He asks his wife "How does he do it?" Ben Hogan probably never ever uttered those words in his life, he did not care how others did it, but only cared how to hit the ball better.
The movie should have focused more on the legendary ball striking of Hogan. He was probably the best ball striker in the history of the game. I have seen tapes of him hitting balls for about an hour, and I think that every single shot was exactly how he was trying to hit it, he could hit all of the shots, draws, fades you name it.
If it really wanted to be accurate it should have shown Hogan chain smoking in the fairway. He used to light his cigarrete with the butt end of the previous one so he always had a cigarette in his mouth. |
