Primitive means first, not inferior
|
Once again, John McPherson starts from the beginning and demonstrates a complex skill that, for some, can be difficult to comprehend, making the task of breaking rock easily understood.
So often in our civilized culture we want to fly before we know how to walk, and walk before we know how to crawl. Primitive is about slowing down and contemplating how something was first done and mastered. John stipulates that we must learn to "knap" flint in a correct sequence of manageable skills--from raw rock to finished product. He begins with the fundamental principles of how flint-type rocks fracture upon being impacted. From here, John elaborates intensely on how and where your guided impact upon a properly prepared platform of raw rock guides your conical rock fracture to afford the "breaker" a workable piece of "rock." This production is instructional rich and I personally find it as enjoyable to observe as it is educatioanl.
For those who really want to understand the primitive skill of working stone into usable tools that are very functional, this video production will get you on the right track and keeping you moving where you need to be. If the basics are not learned and mastered, then the advanced skills certainly cannot be achieved. This video is about the very essential skills needed for mastering breaking flint-type rock into functional "hardware." |
