Bogart, out of character, but still pulls it off!
|
I guess there just isn't any of those old classics I don't like. I've got about ten of these Bogart movies coming to me through the mail and I like them all. I reckon I can say I never saw a Bogart or Hepburn movie I didn't like.
Normally I stick to what I was raised on, science fiction and monster movies from Saturday morning and mid-day tv. Most of us who buy those old movies usually watched them as a kid. But these Hollywood classics from the days when movies were more art than money cross all boundaries and it seems we all like them to.
This movie requires no review (explaination) from me. It is pretty straight forward. The best written novels and movie scripts usually are, (little filler and little unneeded subplots.) I'm a published writer myseslf and I can tell you -- subplots and adding new characters -- is a sign the writer isn't up to the task of finishing his book or script. Or maybe it was a weak idea to begin with. We normally only do that when we can't think what else to do. This movie appears to have no filler or sub-plots to speak of. It seems to be tightly written.
To shorten this a little more, let me add--this is not a popcorn movie (even though I finished mine by the third scene). I guess you should have a shot of burbon and a cigar while the cutie of your choice whacks you over the head with her umbrella.
Buy, do not rent. You wouldn't rent a well written book, would you? |
