A fascinating story..a wonderful documentary
|
| This powerful, fascinating documentary about a Jewish women's swim team shows how young Jewish Viennese pursued lives of courage and dignity in the face of pervasive Austrian anti-semitism in the years before WWII. These women tell their stories today; they are noble, open, funny, smart and loving, and they recount their youthful private and public heroism in a direct, interesting, matter-of-fact manner. The film is made with tact and delicacy; it does not preach or moralize. These women escaped the death camps but they are part of a vanishing generation. What they give us as they are reunited in modern Vienna is precious; it is history, then and now, in its full reality. |
