Best modern Christian film I have seen
|
Although I am a Christian, I don't normally like Christian films, especially ones that are produced today. So many of them are epic end times movies (how many times have I seen "Joe, what is this, some sort of code on the Antichrist's computer, it says E.Z. 38?" "Wait! I just happened to notice that there is a Bible open to Ezekiel 38 and it's talking about a military invasion!" As if the Antichrist would use a reference from the Bible as his secret code... "Thief in the Night" even today outdoes these modern end times films in the storytelling department). Those that aren't silly end times stories are usually some sort of story about someone who overcomes great odds (nothing against those stories, but I don't usually want to spend my Friday nights wathing them), or hammers the film's message so hard that you aren't really sure if there was a story there.
Time Changer is a different breed. First of all, it's a science fiction film. Sci-Fi and Christian! What a concept! (Much like RSTC - a Christian spy film, although RSTC is definitely a kid's film vs. Time Changer which is clearly for adults. If you haven't seen that one, you should check it out.) The production value in this film is excellent, and the story is very good. I only have one complaint about it - the film takes a somewhat boring detour as it has a character explain the message of the film (which is shown quite brilliantly, although I'm not in 100% agreement with it), which caused it to drag in the middle (and causes it to fall in the third issue I have with Christian films above). Take that one character out and this film would get 5 stars. (Well, maybe there is some room for improvement on a couple of the secondary characters' acting) Nevertheless, it's a worthwile film to see. |
