Throne of Blood was one of several DVDs someone sent me to watch. I hadn't seen or even heard of it before. By the first couple of minutes into the film I figured that it was a Japanese ghost or maybe even vampire story. That immediately perked my interest because nobody can do a horror film like the Japanese. Then a few minutes later I was going, "Gee, this sounds really familiar...hey, that's just like Macbeth!" Of course that's exactly what it was: a Japanese art film interpretation of Shakespeare's original ghost story script.
I was all ready for a night of viewing pleasure, but guess what? Throne of Blood really wasn't that good. The acting was fair to lousy, the sets cheap & uninteresting, and even more surprising, the direction sucked. About the only thing I did like was Lady Macbeths strange, disassociated characterization--now she was very spooky & fun.
I tried giving Throne of Blood a second viewing, but it failed hold my attention.
At least the poster art is good.
