Absolutely Hilarious!
|
This series is hilarious. Basic synopsis is there's this priestess named Melissa who after praying to her god Miley for a "valiant champion" is suddenly introduced to Louie, a magician who is hilariously stupid. Melissa naturally wants nothing to do with Louie but is convinced that he is Miley's answer to her prayers. So, along with her warrior friend Jeanie and her thief friend Merrill, Melissa goes with Louie on adventures.
The best and yet most frustrating part of this series is that very few of the stories in these episodes are linear, which means--while watching it from episode 1 will help one's understanding of the plot, you can actually skip around from episode to episode and miss almost nothing. (Just don't try to understand the very last episode using that strategy)
Another thing I love about this series is how ridiculously lucky Louie gets sometimes. They make it perfectly clear that if he studied his magic harder and used more common sense, he'd do much better, and yet the times when he does get a lucky break, it's just an insane amount of luck. Which in my mind makes it even funnier because at first you think, "Wow, he's really smart and mature all of a sudden!" and then he smiles sheepishly and says something like, "Damn, that was lucky!" and you laugh at him.
I can't believe they only made one season of this series though. It's absolutely hilarious (though a bit raunchy... good old Japanese humor) and well put-together. Anyone who likes comedy should love this! |
