♥♥♥♥♥ Foggy Intent
The Mist was for the most part engrossing but in the long run unsatisfying. It's a bit pretentious, never deciding on whether it wants to be cerebral or straight up horror and its attempts at irony are heavy-handed and lack a sense of craft. It also suffered from the dumb girlfriend syndrome; why did we let it get to this point, why are we standing around and not running. The usual deadmeat characters with few, if any, surprises didn't help either.

On the plus side and the reason I can still give the movie three stars is it's very well acted by a virtual ensemble cast. This helps to make the flick very engrossing for quite a while. Also the special fx are pretty good even if the action sequences aren't directed with any panache.

All in all, it's an okay time killer but not nearly as good as The Feast or Slither, both of which had a much better sense of irony and many more surprises on much slimmer budgets. It's another botched adaptation of Stephen King material. Eugene O'Neill and John Steinbeck are always well adapted for the screen and William Faulkner and Stephen King are always botched, it's just one of those things
