Now I am second from the last...

I lived in a "last house on the left" when I was a kid, and was a huge horror movie fan, so this movie always interested me. I rediscovered it as an adult, but it took almost a year to get the nerve to watch it because I had always heard about the intense rape and torture scenes that are in this film. Maybe because I have already seen movies like "The Accused", as well as lots of horror films, but there was nothing really that shocking in this movie.
Well, what was shocking, considering what a cult following this movie has, is how BAD the first half of it is. I'm not kidding. Poor film quality. Really bad acting, stupid beyond belief characters, bad dialog (the part where Mari tells her friend about how her breasts have grown was particularly laughable and could only have been written by a man).
The second half of the movie, when the parents find out and start to exact their revenge is pretty good. The characters all seem to "come alive" and find their purpose. The mother's revenge is pretty awesome and so is the father chasing Krug around with the chainsaw. The introduction by Wes Craven was a nice touch and some of the extras about the movie when it first came out were pretty cool, especially for someone who was not even alive at the time this came out. If you're a big horror fan, then by all means you should probably see this movie. If not, I wouldn't bother.
