Not the choices one would expect
|
Two of the three movies in this collection may prove disappointing to Clooney fans. "Solaris" will appeal to hard-core science fiction buffs (for example, ardent fans of "2001 - A Space Odyssey" will like it), but it's too bizarre and perhaps too hard to follow for many viewers. "Thin Red Line" includes Clooney only in a cameo appearance of barely two minutes at the end of a nearly-three-hour movie. Clearly, these two selections were not the best choices for a Clooney showcase. Rather, this package was designed to bring additional sales to three movies that are a few years old and aren't selling well anymore.
That's not to say that these are bad movies. "Solaris" is well produced and has its niche audience. "Thin Red Line" is a superb World War II movie for those who like realistic portrayals akin to "Saving Private Ryan." And "One Fine Day" features Clooney at his romantic-comedy best, paired with the always exquisite Michelle Pfeiffer. If these three very different genres - sci-fi, war movie, and romantic comedy - all appeal to you, this collection is a good choice. If you want a George Clooney fix, you're likely to be disappointed, so look elsewhere. |
