Cheesy Late 70's Fun
|
Buck Rogers is really cheesy. I love it for my own nostalgia and retro soundtrack appreciation. The plots are predictable, slow, dialog is painful, and Gil Gerard plays Buck with as much inflection as a house plant. I've had the most fun watching this series with a couple of friends and a few beers, while keeping a running commentary.
The second disc was scratched pretty badly on the second side. Pissed me off when I couldn't finish the episode guest starring Gary Coleman!!
This series is really good for three things:
1) The afore mentioned soundtrack (especially in conjunction with the opening title sequence, it's soo good!)
2) Scantly clad hot space heroines and villains
3) The alternative social and administrative dynamic between robots and humans depicted in the 25th century. - In this future, the human race was all but wiped out by a holocaust, and our own robots saved us by repairing the environment. Now the directorial council (compromised completely of robots) run the planet and humans embrace them. There are egotistical snotty robots who demean humans and hip robots who talk in 20th century slang. ('Tweekie' as voiced by the ever entertaining Mel Brooks)
3 stars should really be 2, but the price was right.
